Featuring interviews, live performances, and the occasional poetry reading Why Folk Why Not travels that long and dusty road in search of the the best in roots music. Plus a few old timey tunes for your immortal soul.
Saddle up your horses, turn on the radio, and meet me, Megan Clark, this side of the Jordan every Tuesday from 10:30 – Noon.
Hi Megan,
I was enjoying the many catchy tunes on your show of Tuesday November 6. The one that particularly caught my attention was a mellow banjo song about potatoes (about the second to last song before the interview with the once). Could you tell me what the title of that song is and who performed it?
Kind regards,
Jordi
Hi Jordi,
So glad you enjoyed the show! Thanks for listening. The song you are thinking of is “Soon As We All Cook The Sweet Potatoes” by Pete Seeger. It comes off a great Smithsonian recording of Pete Seeger’s songs for children called “Song and Playtime.” You can find out more about that recording here.
Take care,
Megan
Yes that’s the one!
Thanks very much!
Hi Megan,
It’s Mat, host of Needle Vs Groove. I listen to (at least the first half of) your show every Friday night after mine. I really enjoyed your Johnny Horton segment and felt the need to tell you that I found Johnny Horton’s Greatest Hits at the thrift store today which I would have passed right by last week. Keep up the good work!
Hey Mat!
Thanks so much for the note! I am glad you found some Johnny Horton for your very own.
I often catch Needle vs Groove on Friday nights and it is sounding great (and crazy)!
Megan
